Jordan Brand has officially debuted the 38th iteration of the Air Jordan series in conjunction with the sponsored Quai 54 event in Paris.
The Beaverton brand's design team created the style from the ground up based on Michael Jordan's legendary turnaround fadeaway, imbuing the 38 with a revolutionary X-Plate solution - inspired by the Air Jordan 8 straps - that's cemented in court mobility and space creation. Being a Tier 2 silhouette, the 38 includes at least 20% recycled content by weight, which is most noticeable in the marbled tongue formed from sock liner remnants.
The backless forefoot features embroidered technology, while threaded detailing nods to Jordan's iconic 1993 season with 41 crosshatches consuming the collar in reference to his 41-point-per-game average during the Finals, and three diamonds placed along the medial signify the Chicago Bulls' third franchise championship. Underfoot, the innovative cushioning system ditches Formula23 Foam in favour of a full-length Zoom Strobel and Cushlon 3.0 wedge combination. A radial herringbone traction pattern and the previously mentioned X-Plate round out the bottom half with a vintage yet practical design concept.
The Air Jordan 38 will debut in its first "Fundamental" colorway on August 18th, with upcoming homages to both the FIBA and the WNBA seen below. A pricing point and further release dates have not yet been announced.
