Sneaker fans, mark your calendars! The Air Jordan 1 “Shattered Backboard” is making a much-anticipated comeback on July 12th, 2025, as confirmed by insider @zsneakerheadz.
A Nod to the Original
The 2025 version is expected to stick closely to the color blocking of the original 2015 release. This makes sense, as the drop will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the first “Shattered Backboard.” Over the years, we’ve seen various versions, including the “2.0,” the satin women’s release, and the patent-leather-textured “3.0.” But for many fans, the original remains the gold standard.
Why Is It Called "Shattered Backboard"?
The design takes inspiration from Michael Jordan’s iconic dunk during a 1986 exhibition game in Italy, where he shattered the backboard while wearing an orange and black jersey. The original 2015 pair even featured insoles with a broken rim and shards of glass, a detail we hope will return in 2025.
Material Quality: Will It Deliver?
The 2015 “Shattered Backboard” is remembered not just for its striking colors but also for its top-notch leather quality. Fans are eager to see if the 2025 version will live up to the same standards, as recent Air Jordan 1 releases haven’t always delivered on materials.
A Big Year for Jordan Fans
With 2025 marking the 40th anniversary of Jordan Brand, the lineup is stacked with iconic returns like the Jordan 1 Bred, Jordan 3 Black Cat, and Jordan 5 Grape. The “Shattered Backboard” adds yet another must-have to this monumental year.
Stay tuned for official images and more updates as we get closer to the release date. July 12th can’t come soon enough!
