Nike’s Yardrunners program, founded in 2020, continues to honor Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) with a fresh lineup of uniquely designed footwear. This year, stylist and Virginia Union University (VUU) alum Dex Robinson takes the spotlight with his Air Force 1 Low “VUU Panthers,” celebrating his alma mater with style and school spirit.
Dex Robinson has made his mark in the fashion industry, styling sports icons like Jalen Hurts and Tyrod Taylor and creating the streetwear label DIALLO, a brand embraced by tastemakers like Offset and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Robinson’s journey with Nike Yardrunners began in 2021 when he starred in the program's campaign, later lending his styling skills to the series. Now, with his own design for Yardrunners, he honors VUU’s history, capturing its essence in every detail of the Air Force 1 “VUU Panthers.”
The sneaker pays tribute to VUU’s panther mascot, featuring black faux pony hair that gives it a sleek, bold look reminiscent of some iconic sneaker designs. An iridescent trim surrounds the Nike Swoosh, while pebbled leather enhances the tongue and back tab, delivering a luxe feel. To complete the homage, the shoes include black and red rope laces, metal dubraes, and a translucent gum sole, each element celebrating VUU’s legacy, particularly in honor of the university’s 160th anniversary.
While exact release details remain under wraps, the Nike Air Force 1 “VUU Panthers” is expected to make a local debut in Virginia sometime in November. Stay tuned for more information on this highly anticipated Yardrunners release, crafted with pride and purpose by Dex Robinson.
