If you've read the "History of the New Balance 550," you'll be aware that the silhouette was kept in the archives for more than 30 years. But, since late 2020, the Steven Smith design has appeared in dozens of variations to suit every taste, with the most recent favoring a crisp white and beige ensemble.
The off-white hue of vintage leather uppers is reminiscent of the late 1980s. The sidewall branding and collar accents, all of which are cream in color, break up the uniform. The forthcoming model of New Balance's vintage basketball shoe forgoes visible mesh across the base of the top, unlike prior pairs. Instead, the all-leather construction offers a premium experience, especially for those looking to wear the shoes frequently. The New Balance 550's sole unit keeps things straightforward underfoot as well, completing the minimalist appearance with beige traction.
See the pair's in-depth images upfront. Although a specific launch date for newbalance.com is not yet announced, it is anticipated to do so as summer approaches.
