The Nike KD 17 “Aunt Pearl” is set to release on November 15th, carrying on a meaningful tradition in Kevin Durant’s signature sneaker line. While other famous Nike athletes like Michael Jordan and LeBron James have iconic sneaker colorways such as “Bred” and “Dunkman,” Durant’s “Aunt Pearl” series has a special emotional connection.
This colorway started back in 2012 with the Nike KD 4 “Aunt Pearl,” created in memory of Durant’s great aunt, Pearl Williams. She had a huge impact on Durant’s life before she passed away from lung cancer in 2000. Since then, each new model of Durant’s signature shoes has featured an “Aunt Pearl” version, usually in pink to honor her memory and to support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Part of the proceeds from these shoes goes towards cancer research, adding to their significance.
The KD 17 “Aunt Pearl” sticks to the familiar pink tones but adds new details. The shoe’s TPU waves, inspired by the Air Max Plus, are made from suede for the first time and have embossed roses on the upper. The Swoosh logo switches from a graphic to an embroidered design, and the heel showcases alternating “AP” and “KD” text.
The Nike KD 17 “Aunt Pearl” will be available on November 15th and will be priced at $150. This sneaker not only stands out for its design but also for the heartfelt story and cause it represents.
