Rolex and Wallpaper* Release Book Celebrating the Oyster Perpetual Datejust

After the success of their Submariner book, Rolex and Wallpaper* have teamed up again to publish a new volume dedicated to another legendary model — the Oyster Perpetual Datejust.

The book, titled Oyster Perpetual Datejust – A Watch that Made History, is a 224-page hardcover written by watch historian Nicholas Foulkes. It is the first official, authorized history of the Datejust, one of Rolex’s most iconic creations.

Launched in 1945, the Datejust was Rolex’s first waterproof, self-winding chronometer wristwatch with a date display. The book traces the model’s evolution, highlighting key milestones like the 1953 addition of the Cyclops lens, which magnified the date and became a defining design feature.

Foulkes also includes insights from Rolex Testimonees — athletes, artists, and cultural figures — who share their connection with the watch.
