After its construction in sumptuous "Olive Suede," the New Balance 550 is also experimenting with fabrics that aren't as identifiable with leather. The Basketball Oxford recently wore a clad-canvas composition steeped in dark "Plum" tones.
The entire upper is made of canvas, from the vamp to the heel counter and tongue construction. Even the bulbous mid-foot N logos get a sloppy brushed finish, adding to the inconspicuous tooling. The upper is infected with a similar feverishness, with faint purple tones anchoring the laces, collar lining, and rubber heel clip in the color-matched "Plum" tint, while jet-black contrasts highlight the pair's trademark decorations. Underfoot, the silhouette is kept simple with a white midsole and classic gum tread.
As we await further release information, take a closer look at the New Balance 550 "Plum Canvas" below.
